JACKSON – The Jackson State women's basketball team opens a two-game home stand Saturday versus Mississippi Valley State. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

JSU is the better Tiger

JSU opened up a large first half lead and withstood a Grambling State run in the second half and held on to a 77-74 win. Senior Christina Ellis scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. The San Diego native also played 37 minutes and out-dueled GSU's highly-regarded Shakyla Hill.

Rebounding is key

At Tomekia Reed's weekly press conference, Reed alluded to if you out rebound a team you have a chance to win. JSU did just that and won the battle of the boards 55-35, including 35-22 on the defensive glass. Junior Sumer Williams recorded a career-high 15 rebounds and scored eight points and handed out three assists in the win.

Hamer providing a spark

Junior Marneisha Hamer averages 14.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, both of which lead the team. The Memphis native is also converting 53.8 percent of her shots from the floor, which ranks in the top 10 of the SWAC.

Host UAPB Monday

The Lady Tigers are back at it Monday at 5:30 p.m. and host Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
