JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State softball team travels to Conway, Ark. for a four game weekend versus the likes of Central Arkansas, Arkansas- Pine Bluff, Moorehead State, and Southern Miss.
The Lady Tigers are coming off of a five game weekend in which the Blue and White finished with an overall record of 4-1 with wins over Miles College (2), Jarvis Christian, and Kentucky State. The Blue and White scored a total of 37 runs to improve to 4-5 overall on the season.
Through nine games, JSU has three hitters averaging above .300 at the plate as
Kaitlyn Elzie leads the team with a .450 batting average. Elzie has nine hits in 20 at bats and team highs in home runs (tied with 1) and runs batted in (7).
Ariana Cruz and
Alexis Arredondo are averaging .333 and .308 at the plate respectively with four hits each. Cruz leads the Lady Tigers with five runs scored while Arredondo has a team best one triple. Arredondo follows Elzie for second on the team with six runs batted in.
SWAC Second Team member
Kayla Owens has been dominate in the circle thus far in 2020, with an overall record of 3-2 and one complete game. She has pitched a total of 30.0 innings, giving up just 10 earned runs and 33 hits through 121 batters faced.
Opponents are hitting .273 against Owens as she is allowing just 2.33 earned runs per game and 26 strikeouts in five appearances.
The Lady Tigers open up the weekend versus Arkansas-Bluff (0-9 overall) on Friday with first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. before following up with Central Arkansas (7-4) scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
JSU wraps up the weekend on Saturday with a doubleheader lined up versus Moorehead State (2-2) at 11 a.m. and Southern Miss (4-3) at 3:30 p.m.
