JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State women's basketball team travels to take on Grambling State this Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. in SWAC play.
History in the Making
The Lady Tigers began their SWAC slate with a perfect start of 12-0 before falling to Prairie View A&M this past Saturday for the teams first SWAC loss of the season. The Lady Tigers broke the schools all time win streak in SWAC play and still look to cap the season with a school record for best finish in SWAC play in a season. The 2003-04 squad finished with a 16-2 SWAC record, which is the most wins in program history to date.

Rogan ranks seventh with an average of 12.5 points per game and Marneisha Hamer scores an average of 13.7 points per game and ranks fifth. JSU ranks No. 2 in offense in the SWAC with 65.3 points per game. The Lady Tigers rank in the top half of the SWAC in defense, allowing an average of 64.5 points a game for fourth best in Conference play.
The Lady Tigers lead the conference in rebounding with 43.5 boards per game. JSU also averages 27.3 defensive rebounds and 16.2 offensive rebounds per game, which also ranks first.
Hamer and Ameshya Williams both rank in the top ten in the conference in rebounds. Williams is hauling in 8.9 and Hamer 6.2 rebounds per game, good for third and sixth in the SWAC.
The Blue and White lead the league with 110 blocks and an average of 4.78 denials per game. Williams leads the conference with 62 blocks, which ranks first in the SWAC and 22nd in the country (No. 15 nationally in blocked shots per game with 2.7 BPG).
Dayzsha Rogan leads the Lady Tigers with 53 steals, good for No. 5 in the conference.
Scouting Grambling
Grambling hosts JSU with an overall record is 3-21 and 2-11 in SWAC play. The Lady Tigers of GSU ranked No. 9 in the standings as they sit next to last in the conference.
They average 61.0 points per game while giving up 74.5 point per game to opponents.
Despite the record, Grambling sits at the top of the conference in field goal percentage, ranked second shooting 38.9 percent.
Justice Coleman leads the team ranked fourth in the SWAC in scoring as she averages 14.6 points per games.
Candice Parramore averages 9.8 points per game, ranking 18th in the conference. Justice Coleman and Mylashia Yancy will provide the bulk of the defense for GSU, averaging 4.5 rebounds a game a piece.
Last Time vs. Grambling (January 25, 2020)
JACKSON, Miss. – Kaisah Lucky hit a pair of late free throws and scored a game-high 16 points as Jackson State defeated Prairie View A&M 53-49 Monday evening in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference bout.
The Lady Tigers improved to 8-8 overall and 6-0 in the SWAC. It's the first time in program history that JSU has started conference play 6-0.
"It means a lot and I'm fortunate to have a great staff and a team that has bought in," JSU head coach Tomekia Reed. "We are highly-favored. We pray as a staff and we pray as a team. Our goal isn't to win all of our games: it's to get better each game."
Marneisha Hamer dropped 11 points and went 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. She also secured eight rebounds.
Dayzsha Rogan scored six points and grabbed a game-high 10 boards and Ameshya Williams added six points to go with eight rebounds.
JSU dominated in front of the basket with 47 rebounds and 20 points in the paint. The Lady Tigers also grabbed 23 offensive rebounds which turned into 13 second-chance points.
The Blue and White forced 18 turnovers, which turned into 15 points.
JSU's staunch defense held PVAMU to 32.7 percent (17-of-52) from the floor.
