JACKSON, Miss.  – The Jackson State women's basketball team hosts Mississippi Valley State this Saturday beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Lee E. Williams Athletics & Assembly Center.
 
History in the Making
 
The Lady Tigers currently boast a conference record of 13-1 as they head into the final two weekends of the regular season. The Blue and White began the season 12-0, breaking the school record for best in SWAC play. The Lady Tigers continue to chase history as the 2003-04 squad finished with a 16-2 SWAC record, which is the most wins in program history to date.

SWAC Player of the Week
For the second time in two weeks, the SWAC named Ameshya Williams the SWAC Player of the Week. Williams contributed 21 points, three blocks, two steals, and 16 rebounds in the Lady Tigers' 82-59 victory over Grambling State. It was Williams's 11th double-double of the season.
 
She went 8-for-14 from the field and was 5-of-7 from the charity stripe with a 57 percent field goal percentage.

Marneisha Hamer and Dayzsha Rogan each rank in the top 10 in the conference in points per game. Rogan ranks seventh with an average of 12.9 points per game and Marneisha Hamer scores an average of 13.7 points per game and ranks fifth. JSU ranks No. 2 in offense in the SWAC with 66.0 points per game. The Lady Tigers rank in the top half of the SWAC in defense, allowing an average of 64.5 points a game for fourth best in Conference play.
 
The Lady Tigers lead the conference in rebounding with 43.5 boards per game. JSU also averages 27.3 defensive rebounds and 16.2 offensive rebounds per game, which also ranks first. 
 
Hamer and Ameshya Williams both rank in the top ten in the conference in rebounds. Williams is hauling in 9.2 and Hamer 6.2 rebounds per game, good for third and fifth in the SWAC. 
 
The Blue and White lead the league with 115 blocks and an average of 4.79 denials per game. Williams leads the conference with 65 blocks, which ranks first in the SWAC and 22nd in the country (No. 17 nationally in blocked shots per game with 2.7 BPG).

Dayzsha Rogan leads the Lady Tigers with 59 steals, good for No. 3 in the conference. 

 
Scouting Mississippi Valley State
 
Mississippi Valley State enters the match-up 2-23 and 1-13 in the conference as they currently are riding a six game losing skid.
 
MVSU will look to Ayonna Cotton. She has started 24 games and averages 11.0 points per game and is shooting 34 percent from the field. Cotton is also a dynamic 3-point shooter and is converting 37 percent of shots from beyond the arc.
 
Diamond Wraggs and Shelli Thigpen are the leading rebounders for the Devilettes. Wraggs leads the team with 4.7 boards per game and Thigpen is right behind with 4.6 boards per game.
 
MVSU is out-rebounded by an average of 42.3-35.4.
 
Last Time vs. Mississippi Valley State (February 1, 2020)
 
ITTA BENA, Miss. – Four student-athletes scored in double digits as the Jackson State women's basketball team rolled past Mississippi Valley State 90-61 Saturday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
 
JSU improved to 10-8 and 8-0 in the conference and have also won nine in a row. MVSU falls to 1-18 and 0-8 in the conference.
 
The Lady Tigers seized control in the first period and outscored the Devilettes 31-7.
 
Junior Dayzsha Rogan scored a game-high 19 points and went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.
 
Freshman Keshuna Luckett, a Lanier High School alum, finished with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor. Junior Ameshya Williams added 13 points and grabbed six boards.
 
Senior Marneisha Hamer scored 10 points and hauled in a game-high seven rebounds.
 
As a team, JSU shot 42.3 percent from the field (33-for-78), including a sizzling 50 percent (20-for-40) from the floor in the first half.
 
JSU forced MVSU in 30 turnovers, which was promptly turned into 35 points. The Lady Tigers also scored 35 second-chance points and received 36 points from the bench.
 
The Blue & White entered as the SWAC's top rebounding team and out-rebounded MVSU 51-31 and won the points in the paint battle 38-20.
