JACKSON, Miss.  – The Jackson State women's basketball team travels to Montgomery, Ala for a Thursday night showdown with SWAC opponent Alabama State at 5:30 p.m.
 
History in the Making
 
The Lady Tigers currently boast a conference record of 15-1 as they head into the final week of the regular season. The Blue and White began the season 12-0, breaking the school record for best in SWAC play. The Lady Tigers continue to chase history as the 2003-04 squad finished with a 16-2 SWAC record, which is the most wins in program history to date.

The Jackson State women's basketball clinched its first regular season championship since 2007 with a dominating 68-47 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday evening.
 
The Tigers will open the SWAC tournament as the No. 1 seed.
 
Trailing 27-26 at halftime, JSU opened the third quarter with a 12-2 run and seized control.
 
JSU (17-9, 15-1 SWAC) shot 60 percent (9-for-15) from the field in the third quarter, while stopping UAPB (6-21, 5-12 SWAC) in its tracks to 20 percent (3-of-15) shooting from the floor.
 
Junior Ameshya Williams scored a career-high 24 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the field. Williams also grabbed 12 boards to secure her 12th double-double of the season.
 
Senior Marneisha Hamer dominated and added 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the floor. Junior Dayzsha Rogan scored 14 points and recorded four steals.
 
Kristy Parker recorded six points and Kaisah Lucky scored four points.
 
As a team, JSU shot 45 percent (27-for-60) from the field, while holding UAPB to 24.3 percent (17-for-70) from the floor.

The Lady Tigers have  produced three scorers within the top 10 of the SWAC rankings.


Dayzsha Rogan and Marneisha Hamer rank fifth and sixth in the league with 13.5 and 13.4 points scored per game. Hamer sits in fifth overall in rebounds with 6.1 rebounds per game. Rogan also leads the Lady Tigers with 65 steals, good for No. 3 in the conference.

Ameshya Williams breaks into the top 10 this week, sitting at No. 9 in the conference scoring with 11.9 points scored per game. Williams ranks No.10 nationally in blocks per game with 2.88 swats a contest. She leads the conference with 73 blocked shots through 25 games played for the junior. 

Williams averages 9.6 rebounds per game to rank third in the SWAC, while sitting at No. 18 in the nation with 4.0 offensive rebounds on average.

 
JSU ranks No. 2 in offense in the SWAC with 67.5 points per game. The Lady Tigers rank in the top half of the SWAC in defense, allowing an average of 63.2 points a game for fourth best in Conference play.
 
The Lady Tigers lead the conference in rebounding with 43.5 boards per game. JSU also averages 27.3 defensive rebounds and 16.2 offensive rebounds per game, which also ranks first.  

Scouting Alabama State
 
Alabama State enters with a 9-18 overall record with 6 wins and 10 losses in SWAC play.
 
The Hornets are led by freshman Aniyah Smith. The 5-foot-10 Birmingham native is averaging 11.4 points per game and is shooting 42.9 percent from the field. She's also averaging 7.1 rebounds per contest.
 
In the backcourt, ASU will look to sophomore Ayana Emmanuel. The 5-foot-9 guard is averaging 10.3 p.p.g and is shooting 35.6 percent from beyond the arc. She also averages 3.9 rebounds per contest.
 
Last Time vs. Alabama State (January 4, 2020)
 
JACKSON, Miss. – Kaisah Lucky scored a season-high 18 points and handed out 11 assists to record the double-double and lead the Jackson State women's basketball team past Alabama State 94-62 Saturday afternoon in the SWAC opener at the Lee E. Williams Athletics & Assembly Center.
 
JSU (3-8, 1-0 SWAC), which has now defeated ASU (3-9, 0-1) three times in a row, dominated from start to finish.
 
The Lady Tigers shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) in the opening period and also went 6-of-6 at the charity stripe. JSU was effective on offense in the second quarter and converted 75 percent (9-of-12) of its shot attempts
 
For the game, JSU shot 57.4 percent (35-of-61) from the floor, while the Hornets were limited to 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the floor.
 
Dayzsha Rogan, the reigning SWAC Player of the Week, finished with 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. The Ripley, Mississippi native also went 6-of-6 at the free-throw line.
 
Marneisha Hamer added 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor while hauling in seven rebounds.
 
Ameshya Williams added 10 points and nine rebounds.
