JACKSON, Miss.  – The 2020 regular season SWAC champions Jackson State women's basketball team takes on Alabama A&M this afterrnon at 4 p.m. for a chance to break the school record for best SWAC record in Jackson State history.
 
History in the Making
 
The Lady Tigers currently boast a conference record of 16-1 as they head into the final week of the regular season. The Blue and White began the season 12-0, breaking the school record for best in SWAC play. A win tonight and the Lady Tigers will have passed the 2003-04 squad that finished with a 16-2 SWAC record, which is the most wins in program history to date.

The Lady Tigers have produced three scorers within the top 10 of the SWAC rankings.


Dayzsha Rogan and Marneisha Hamer rank fifth and sixth in the league with 13.5 and 13.4 points scored per game. Hamer sits in fifth overall in rebounds with 6.1 rebounds per game. Rogan also leads the Lady Tigers with 65 steals, good for No. 3 in the conference.

Ameshya Williams breaks into the top 10 this week, sitting at No. 9 in the conference scoring with 11.9 points scored per game. Williams ranks No.10 nationally in blocks per game with 2.88 swats a contest. She leads the conference with 73 blocked shots through 25 games played for the junior. 

Williams averages 9.6 rebounds per game to rank third in the SWAC, while sitting at No. 18 in the nation with 4.0 offensive rebounds on average.

 
JSU ranks No. 2 in offense in the SWAC with 67.5 points per game. The Lady Tigers rank in the top half of the SWAC in defense, allowing an average of 63.2 points a game for fourth best in Conference play.
 
The Lady Tigers lead the conference in rebounding with 43.5 boards per game. JSU also averages 27.3 defensive rebounds and 16.2 offensive rebounds per game, which also ranks first.  

Scouting Alabama A&M
 
Alabama A&M enters with a 15-13 overall record and 11-6 mark in conference play. 
 
The Lady Bulldogs have two players who are averaging in double-digits. Dariauna Lewis averages a double-double with 15.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She also has a team-high 15 blocks.
 
DeShawna Harper is sporting 13.6 points per game and has handed out a team-high 27 assists.
 
Last Time vs. Alabama A&M (January 6, 2020)
 
Ameshya Williams scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, as the Jackson State women's basketball team drilled Alabama A&M 67-53 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
 
Both teams traded baskets in the first half and the Lady Tigers went into halftime with a 31-26 advantage.
 
JSU (4-8, 2-0 SWAC) pulled away in the second half and outscored AAMU (4-8, 0-2 SWAC) 36-27 over the final 20 minutes to close out the contest.
 
Kaisah Lucky, who recorded a double-double this past Saturday versus Alabama State, turned out another splendid performance and scored seven points and handed out a game-high eight assists.
 
Preseason SWAC 1st Team selection Marneisha Hamer added 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Hamer also was a perfect 2-2 at the free-throw line.
 
Reigning SWAC Player of the Week Dayzsha Rogan dropped a team-high 17 points and converted 3-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc.
 
As a team, JSU shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the field, while holding AAMU to 31.9 percent (22-of-69) from the floor.
 
JSU forced AAMU into 21 turnovers which were turned into 25 points. The Lady Tigers also dominated in front of the basket with 41 rebounds and 44 points in the paint.
