JACKSON, Miss.  – The 2020 regular season SWAC champions, Jackson State women's basketball team, plays host to Alabama State Tuesday evening at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center for the first round of the SWAC Tournament.

The Lady Tigers have produced three scorers within the top 10 of the SWAC rankings.


Dayzsha Rogan and Marneisha Hamer rank fifth and sixth in the league with 13.5 and 13.4 points scored per game. Hamer sits in fifth overall in rebounds with 6.1 rebounds per game. Rogan also leads the Lady Tigers with 65 steals, good for No. 3 in the conference.

Ameshya Williams breaks into the top 10 this week, sitting at No. 9 in the conference scoring with 11.9 points scored per game. Williams ranks No.10 nationally in blocks per game with 2.88 swats a contest. She leads the conference with 73 blocked shots through 25 games played for the junior. 

Williams averages 9.6 rebounds per game to rank third in the SWAC, while sitting at No. 18 in the nation with 4.0 offensive rebounds on average.

 
JSU ranks No. 2 in offense in the SWAC with 67.5 points per game. The Lady Tigers rank in the top half of the SWAC in defense, allowing an average of 63.2 points a game for fourth best in Conference play.
 
The Lady Tigers lead the conference in rebounding with 43.5 boards per game. JSU also averages 27.3 defensive rebounds and 16.2 offensive rebounds per game, which also ranks first.

Alabama State enters with a 9-20 overall record with 6 wins and 12 losses in SWAC play.
 
The Hornets are led by freshman Aniyah Smith. The 5-foot-10 Birmingham native is averaging 11.4 points per game and is shooting 42.9 percent from the field. She's also averaging 7.1 rebounds per contest.
 
In the backcourt, ASU will look to sophomore Ayana Emmanuel. The 5-foot-9 guard is averaging 10.3 p.p.g and is shooting 35.6 percent from beyond the arc. She also averages 3.9 rebounds per contest.

Last Time at Alabama State (March 5, 2020)

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
The Jackson State women's basketball team improved to 16-1 in conference play with a 76-56 win over Alabama State on Thursday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala.

Ameshya Williams and Dayzcha Rogan led JSU with 20 points a piece. Williams and Sumer Williams each collected 10 rebounds, as Ameshya earned herself another double-double.

Marneshia Hamer had 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting and four rebounds. Kaisah Lucky collected team highs with four assists and three steals.

As a team, JSU shot 29-of-63 from the floor and out rebounded Alabama State 35-31. 

With the win, Jackson State improve to 18-9 overall on the season and a SWAC best 16-1 in conference play. The Lady Tigers have won four straight heading into Saturday's regular season finale.

With one more game Saturday at Alabama A&M, the Lady Tigers have the opportunity to finish with the best Conference record in score history. The mark of 16-2, set back in the 2003-04 season, has stood as the best SWAC record for any Blue and White women's basketball team.

JACKSON, Miss. – Kaisah Lucky scored a season-high 18 points and handed out 11 assists to record the double-double and lead the Jackson State women's basketball team past Alabama State 94-62 Saturday afternoon in the SWAC opener at the Lee E. Williams Athletics & Assembly Center.
 
JSU (3-8, 1-0 SWAC), which has now defeated ASU (3-9, 0-1) three times in a row, dominated from start to finish.
 
The Lady Tigers shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) in the opening period and also went 6-of-6 at the charity stripe. JSU was effective on offense in the second quarter and converted 75 percent (9-of-12) of its shot attempts
 
For the game, JSU shot 57.4 percent (35-of-61) from the floor, while the Hornets were limited to 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the floor.
 
Dayzsha Rogan, the reigning SWAC Player of the Week, finished with 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. The Ripley, Mississippi native also went 6-of-6 at the free-throw line.
 
Marneisha Hamer added 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor while hauling in seven rebounds.
 
Ameshya Williams added 10 points and nine rebounds.
