Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers soccer program captured a 4-2 win over Alcorn State in the season opener at Sports Force Park in Vicksburg, Miss on Sunday afternoon.
Ana Leticia Batista got the Lady Tigers started off with a goal to give JSU a 1-0 lead over the Lady Braves.
Sydni Wilson gave the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead before getting a third goal off the foot of
Brynn Walker to extend the lead to 3-0.
JSU added a fourth goal by
Alexandria Dummar as the Lady Tigers were able to wrap up game one of the season by a final score of 4-2 over Alcorn State.
After a year and a half off, the Lady Tigers looked sharp in game one. "Look it's basically our first match in a year and a half. I have zero complaints", said head coach
Dr. Ted Flogaites.
"We looked brilliant in stretches of the match and played with some authority, the third goal was particularly tasty from a teamwork standpoint. We had some sloppiness creep into other areas, but it's to be expected with how long we've been off. It's one of the only times we been outside since January 5th and it was on a turf surface we didn't get to train on at all."
The Lady Tigers were all over the net with multiple scorers on the afternoon, with four Lady Tigers each earning a goal.
"The players were excellent, four goals from four different players and we got many different players match experience. You keep it simple: We got to play the game we love, represent JSU and earn a victory. Now we'll address the areas we need to be sharper in over the next two weeks", added Flogaites.
JSU begins the season 1-0 overall and 1-0 in SWAC play. The Blue and White return to the pitch on March 12 for the first home match of the season with Alabama A&M. Start time is set for 1 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Complex.
