Senior Dayzsha Rogan scored a game-high 19 points and led the Jackson State women basketball team past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 81-48 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic conference action from the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. "I'm really proud of the team because we learned how to work as one," said JSU head women's basketball coach Tomekia Reed. "We really clicked on defense and that set the momentum and just really pleased with the overall effort. The Lady Tigers opened up a 22-7 first quarter lead and seized control. JSU continued to put the pressure on in the second quarter and shot 56.3 percent (9-for-16) from the field and did not commit a single foul. JSU went into halftime with a 45-23 lead. JSU shot 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from the floor, while holding UAPB to 30 percent (3-for-10) shooting. Along with Rogan, the Lady Tigers had three score in double digits. Junior Jariyah Covington came off the bench and scored 14 points and recorded four steals, and All-American candidate Ameshya Williams recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Tigers (8-5, 7-1 SWAC) forced UAPB into 32 turnovers, which was turned into 44 points. JSU also outscored UAPB (2-11, 1-6 SWAC) 36-18 in the paint and won the rebounding battle 40-27. "Everything is coming together," Covington said, who went 1-for-1 from beyond the arc and 5-for-7 at the free-throw line. "We have a great group of guards with Dayzsha, Keshuna, and then Ameshya in the post, it's going to be hard to stop us."

The Lady Tigers cruised to a convincing 66-31 victory against Alcorn State Saturday afternoon, a part of the home opener at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. mIn the first quarter of play, Jackson State opened up to a 20-5 lead within the first eight minutes of play. Jackson State led 26-9 at the end of the first quarter.  Midway through the second quarter, the Lady Tigers held a 34-13 advantage and closed the half with a 17-point lead, 36-19. Jackson State outscored Alcorn 12-7 in the third quarter and 18-5 in the fourth quarter to ultimately hand Alcorn State a 66-31 loss. After pulling in national honors last week, Ameshya Williams once again pasted the Lady Tigers, finishing with 22 points, 12 rebounds, five blocked shots, and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. It was her fifth double-double of the season. Dayzsha Rogan finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. She also led the Lady Tigers with two three-pointers made (2-for-4)  and collected four assists. Cherelle Jones and Jariyah Covington each tallied six points in the contest. As a team, Jackson State was 29-for-59 from the field and 12-of-18 from the free throw line.  The Lady Tigers had 38 points in the paint and were provided 20 points off the bench.

Jackson State has three players averaging double-digit points through 13 games with preseason first-team All-SWAC nominee, Dayzsha Rogan averaging 17.7 points per game. Jackson State newcomer, Jariyah Covington is having a fantastic season in her first year, averaging 10.9 points per game, with 27 assists, and 16 steals. SWAC Preseason Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Ameshya Williams, averages 17.2 points per game. She also leads Jackson State with 12.2 rebounds per game. For the season, Williams also leads the team with 46 blocked shots.
