JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State women's basketball team is set to host Southeastern Louisiana University in its last non-conference matchup of the season Friday afternoon at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
Jackson State (2-7) is coming off an 83-56 road loss to Washington State. The Tigers opened their 2022-23 campaign with a ten-day road trip against North Carolina, followed by a visit to Colorado to open the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). JSU faced Texas Tech and Louisiana to wrap up the road trip while collecting its first two wins of the season.
Jackson State hit the road again to square off against UCLA at Pauley Pavilion that nearly ended in an upset. The Tigers trailed by four points with 5:46 left in the game, but UCLA hit the gas to seal the 72-60 victory. The blue and white then turned to Oregon State, nearly knocking off the Beavs on the road. JSU fell 63-53 in the matchup. The Tigers struggled to overcome competition at Mizzou and against Texas at the Mississippi Coliseum before closing out the non-conference road slate at Washington State.
Southeastern Louisiana (5-4) comes to Jackson State after falling to the University of Alabama, 55-45, on the road Tuesday. Alexius Horne scored 10 points in the Lions' loss, while Hailey Giaratano scored eight points, two assists and five steals.
Jackson State will open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play after the New Year with a visit to Alcorn State on Jan. 2 at 2 p.m.
