JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State University women's soccer team is gearing up to open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play tomorrow at the JSU Soccer Field against Grambling State. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
Jackson State (1-6, 0-0) closed out its non-conference schedule on September 9 at Northwestern State. The Tigers opened the season with four home matches in a row and recorded its first victory against Jacksonville State in the last home match. Junior forward Analise Brunson sits at number ten in the SWAC in shots registering ten shots including six on goal this season. Kendyl Terrell continues to hold the seventh-ranked position in game-winning goals for her clutch goal against Jacksonville State.
Grambling State (3-6, 0-0) opened its season 2-0 defeating LSU-Shreveport and Alcorn State. The Tigers traveled down the road to ULM falling to the Warhawks 3-2 in Monroe, La. The GSU Tigers went on to go 0-4 in the next matchups falling to Abilene Christian, LSU, Northwestern State and Central Arkansas. Grambling State topped Little Rock, 1-0, on the road and fell to Arizona State in Temple. The black and gold closed out the 2021 season as the SWAC runner-up.
Jackson State will return to the JSU Soccer Field Sunday at 1 p.m. hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff to close out the weekend.
UAPB (5-6, 0-0) also opened its season 2-0 topping Arkansas State, 1-0, on the road and Central Baptist College, 3-0, at home. The Golden Lions fell to Tarleton State and Little Rock on the road following the two victories. UAPB returned home to defeat Lyon College, 3-0. Pine Bluff traveled to Florence, Ala. for a match-up with UNA as the Golden Lions came up short. UAPB closed out its non-conference schedule falling to Oral Roberts, Tulsa and North Dakota while listing two more victories at Jarvis Christian and Williams Baptist College. The Golden Lions will face Jackson State after a Friday night meeting with Southern University.
Both matches will be live streamed on JSU Sports Network and fans can follow live stats. The game theme for Friday's game is, "Shake Your Pom-pom." The first 100 fans at the JSU Soccer Field will receive a pom-pom. Sunday's game is a white out and fans are encouraged to wear white.
