Women's Basketball to Host FAMU Monday Evening

JACKSON, Miss.| After a show-stopping victory over Bethune-Cookman Saturday afternoon, the Jackson State women's basketball team will host Florida A&M Monday evening in front of its home crowd.
 
Jackson State (8-8, 5-1 SWAC) topped Bethune-Cookman Saturday 82-60 at home. Five Tigers stood out, scoring in double figures while two registered double-doubles. Ti'Ian Boler scored 20 points in JSU's win and tacked on six and two assists. Boler also went 2-for-2 from the free throw line and the three-point line, while going 8-for-9 from the field in 29 minutes. Angel Jackson notched a double-double scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Daja Woodard finished with 13 points and six rebounds for JSU. Woodard also went 3-for-4 from the free throw line and 5-for-6 from the field. Daphane White posted her second double-double of the season with 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Jariyah Covington added another 10 points for the Tigers.
 
Florida A&M (3-14, 1-5 SWAC) fell to Alcorn State, 72-60 Saturday afternoon on the road. Dylan Horton led the Rattlers in scoring with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Horton leads the team in scoring averaging 17 points. Paulla Weekes is the team leader in rebounds averaging  6.1. Ahriahna Grizzle is averaging 3.1 assists per game for FAMU.
 
Jackson State reclaims its number rank in the conference as the Tigers improved to 5-1. Alabama A&M ranks second also 5-1, followed by Prairie View A&M (5-2), Southern (4-2) and Alabama State (4-2) to round out the top five.
 
The Tigers also have the number defense in the conference and the number two offense. Angel Jackson has the highest free throw percentage in the conference (.804) and is second in blocked shots with Daphane White at 14. Keshuna Luckett remains number one in assists in the SWAC and Covington is at 6th. Angel Jackson sits third in the SWAC in rebounds while Daja Woodard is 9th and Daphane White makes the leaderboard at 19th. Jackson State is also 3rd in blocked shots with 31 on the season. Ti'Ian Boler is 10th in scoring the SWAC having registered 176 points so far this season and averaging 11.7.
