JSU Women's Basketball Opens Louisiana Road Slate at GSU

GRAMBLING, La.| The Jackson State women's basketball team will hit the road to open its Louisiana road slate at Grambling State Saturday afternoon. JSU will tip-off at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow live on HBCU Go TV.

Jackson State (9-8, 6-1 SWAC) is coming off a 2-0 home stretch against Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M. The Tigers defeated the Wildcats, 82-60 and the Rattlers, 72-51. Daphane White posted her third double-double of the season against FAMU with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jariyah Covington led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points. Ti'Ian Boler added a double-double of her own with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Daja Woodard tacked on 11 rebounds in the victory.

The Tigers shot 26-for-65 (40 percent) from the field and 17-for-26 (65.4 percent) from the free throw line. The team finished with 42 points in the paint, 23 second chance points, 22 points off 18 FAMU turnovers, 15 bench points and nine fast break points.

Grambling State (5-13, 4-3 SWAC) lost to Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday evening, 64-57 on the road. Leah Morrow and Colbi Maples each posted 13 points in the loss. Phylicia Allen recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Jackson State remains the top team in the SWAC, while having the number one defense and the second ranked offense in the conference. Keshuna Luckett still holds the top spot in assists, while Jariyah Covington holds the number seven spot. Angel Jackson is second in blocked shots, followed by Daphane White (16th) spot, Daja Woodard (18th) and Liz Martino (22nd). Martino is also 8th in steals. Jackson is 4th in rebounding and Woodard is 6th. Ti'Ian Boler is 11th in the SWAC in scoring.
