JSU Set to Take on FAMU to Open Florida Swing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| After ousting Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its last home stretch, the Jackson State women's basketball team has its attention set on Florida A&M as the Tigers prepare to face the Rattlers for the second go-round this season. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. CT at the Al Lawson Center Saturday afternoon.

Jackson State (13-8, 10-1 SWAC) is coming off a big win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home on Monday. The Tigers defeated the Golden Lions 88-53 as Daphane White and Angel Jackson each notched double-doubles in the winJackson State shot 50.8 percent (32-for-3) from the field and 57.6 percent (19-for-33) from the free throw line Monday night.

Florida A&M (5-17, 3-8 SWAC) fell just short to Prairie View A&M in its last matchup on the road Monday, 51-49. Mide Oriyomi finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for FAMU. Paulla Weekes had 10 rebounds and eight points in the loss, and Ahriahna Grizzle had eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists. FAMU ties the game at 19 going into the half. The Rattlers began to lose the advantage, trailing by nine points at the end of the third quarter. Prairie View A&M opened the fourth quarter taking an 11-point lead over FAMU, but the Rattlers slowly began to close the gap to trail by four with 1:58 left in the game. The Panthers found a way out as FAMU suffered the 51-49 loss on the road.

Jackson State rides a seven-game win streak heading into its matchup with Florida A&M. The Tigers continue to hold the 1st ranked defense and offense in the conference. Keshuna Luckett is 2nd in the SWAC in assists and Jariyah Covington is 4th. Ti'Ian Boler is 10th in scoring and Angel Jackson is 19th. Jackson is also 4th in rebounding, while Daja Woodard is 6th and Daphane White is 10th. Boler still leads in free throw percentage followed by Jackson who is ranked 8th. Jackson sits second in blocked shots and while White is ranked 11th in the conference. Liz Martino is 9th in steals in the SWAC.
