Jackson State Set to Close Out Florida Road Trip at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.| The Jackson State women's basketball team is set to take on Bethune-Cookman to close out its Florida road swing Monday evening. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. CT at Moore Gymnasium.

Jackson State (14-8, 11-1 SWAC) overcame Florida A&M University Saturday night, 68-53, as Ti'Ian Boler led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points and two steals. JSU opened the game taking a 7-0 lead over the Rattlers. FMAU chopped away at the deficit but the Tigers still carried a 19-13 lead into the second quarter. JSU pulled away for a 28-18 advantage with 3:12 to play before the half. FAMU cut the Tigers' lead to singles digits twice before JSU rolled a 50-37 lead into the last ten minutes of the game. Jackson State pulled away from the Rattlers and walked away with the 68-53 victory.

Jariyah Covington tacked on 16 points, three assists and three rebounds and Keshuna Luckett added nine points, six assists and two steals. JSU shot 40.6 percent (26-for-64) from the field and 52.4 percent (11-for-21) from the free throw line. The Tigers finished with 38 points in the paint, 23 second chance points, 20 bench points, 18 points off 15 FAMU turnovers and seven fast break points.

Bethune-Cookman (10-12, 9-3 SWAC) is riding a five-game win streak after defeating Alcorn State 68-60 at home Saturday afternoon. Chanel Wilson led the Wildcats in the win with 16 points and three assists. D'Shantae Edwards finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and two steals and Kayla White ended the night with 13 points and three assists.

Jackson State increases its win streak to eight heading into its matchup with Bethune-Cookman. The Tigers continue to hold the 1st ranked defense and offense in the conference. Keshuna Luckett is 2nd in the SWAC in assists and Jariyah Covington is 4th. Angel Jackson is the SWAC leader in blocked shots while White is ranked 11th. Ti'Ian Boler is 9th in scoring and Jariyah Covington is 18th. Angel Jackson is 4th in rebounding, while Daja Woodard is 6th and Daphane White is 8th. Boler still leads in free throw percentage followed by Jackson who is ranked 8th. Liz Martino is 10th in steals in the SWAC.
