The Tigers created some space in the fourth taking an eight-point lead with 2:46 left in the game, 60-52. Southern attempted to close in on the deficit, but Jackson State held on to win 64-57.
Mississippi Valley State (2-18, 0-9 SWAC) comes to Jackson State with no luck in conference play so far. The Devillettes defeated Nicholls State and New Orleans at home earlier in the season.
