BIRMINGHAM, Ala.| The Jackson State women's basketball team is set to open postseason play in the 2023 Cricket SWAC Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening. The Tigers will face Grambling State in the quarterfinals at Bartow Arena at 5:30 p.m.

Jackson State (20-8, 17-1 SWAC) completed a 20-win regular season after its victory over Mississippi Valley State Saturday afternoon. The Tigers had four players score in double figures, led by Daphane White, who had 17 points. Ti'lan Boler added 15 points and Jariyah Covington helped out with 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Jackson State out-rebounded Mississippi Valley State 47-40 in Saturday's game, paced by Angel Jackson's eight boards. The Tigers also pulled down 14 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second chance points. JSU's defense held Mississippi Valley State to only 39.7 percent shooting from the field.
The Tigers enter the SWAC Basketball Tournament as the #1 seed and will take on the #8 seed Grambling State in the quarterfinals.

Grambling State (10-19, 9-9 SWAC) is coming off a home win against Alabama State Saturday. The Tigers edged the Hornets 62-60 to close out the regular season. GSU led 58-57 with a little under two minutes remaining in the game. The Tigers were able to pull off the win to secure a spot in the SWAC Tournament. Phylicia Allen led the way for Grambling State with 17 points, followed by Leah Morrow with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Jackson State and Grambling State will go head-to-head in a SWAC Quarterfinals match up tomorrow live on ESPN+.

JSU landed three athletes on the SWAC postseason honors list. Angel Jackson was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Year. Ti'Ian Boler was tabbed All-SWAC First Team and Jariyah Covington was tabbed All-SWAC Second Team. JSU head women's basketball coach Tomekia Reed was tabbed Coach of the Year.
