The Jackson State baseball team will begin the second half of Southwestern Athletic Conference play in a weekend series at Alabama A&M.
Game times are Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Jackson State (19-16 overall, 4-11 SWAC) is coming off a 14-4 loss at Southeastern La. Missed opportunities hurt the Tigers, who left the bases loaded three times in the game. Daniel Bannon and Jatavis Melton each had two hits in the contest, while Ty Hill collected his 50th hit of the season and drove in two runs.
Hill is tied for first in the SWAC and tied for 20th in the nation in batting average (.420), leads the conference and is 14th in the country in on-base percentage (.535), is second in the SWAC in on-base plus slugging% (1.224), is second in the league in slugging% (.689), and is tied for the lead league in doubles (14). Hill is also tied for second in hits (50), tied for fifth in triples (three), has a career-high four home runs, is ninth in runs scored (36), and is fourth in RBI (42).
Nationally, the Tigers ranked 16th in scoring (8.7 runs per game), 14th in triples (15), 24th in total runs (306), and 16th in on-base percentage (.424). Jackson State ranks second in the SWAC in batting average (.304), and fifth in ERA (7.41).
Alabama A&M (12-20, 2-11) is coming off a Tuesday loss at Murray St. Tommy Easley leads the Bulldogs in batting average (.368), doubles (seven), triples (three), home runs (two), and RBI (30).
