Baseball To Face Bethune-Cookman In Final Regular Season Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Jackson State baseball team will conclude the regular season with a Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division series at Bethune-Cookman.

The games are scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 5 p.m., and Saturday at noon CT, with a live audio broadcast of each game on the Jackson State Sports Network beginning with a 15-minute pregame show at gojsutigers.com/live.

Jackson State (27-21 overall, 12-15 SWAC) defended home over the past three weeks, winning two of three games each in series against Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, and Mississippi Valley State at Braddy Field. Combined with its last SWAC road series at Alabama A&M, the Tigers have won four consecutive SWAC series heading into this weekend's matchup with the Wildcats before beginning SWAC Tournament play one week from today in Atlanta.

Ty Hill, a finalist for the Ferris Trophy as the top college baseball player in the state of Mississippi, ranks fourth in the SWAC and 30th in the nation in batting average (.401), fourth in the SWAC and eighth in the nation in on-base percentage (.530), is tied for third in the SWAC in on-base plus slugging% (1.190), is fourth in the league in slugging% (.660), and is tied for fifth in the league in doubles (16). Hill is also ninth in hits (65), tied for sixth in triples (four), has a career-high six home runs, and is sixth in RBI (53).

Hill hit .429 (3-7) with a double, three walks, four runs scored, and two RBI last weekend against Miss. Valley. Marcus Atterberry (.500 avg., 4-8, 2R, 1 2B, 6 RBI) and Omar Gomez (.444 avg., 4-9, 2R, 2 RBI) each hit home runs in the series.

The weekend pitching rotation of Christian Womble (8-1), Jesse Caver (6-4), and Colby Guy (4-5) have combined for 18 wins. Relief pitcher Erick Gonzalez (1-2, 3.94 ERA) leads the SWAC in saves (eight).

Bethune-Cookman (27-24, 18-8) won two of three games last weekend at archrival Florida A&M as the Wildcats battle for the second seed in the SWAC East. Hylan Hall leads B-CU in batting average (.376), hits, (70), runs scored (50), triples (six), and RBI (44).
