TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Jackson State dropped its first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest of the season, falling to Florida A&M 10-1 at Moore-Kittles Field on Thursday.
Jackson State (19-6, 5-1 SWAC fell behind early before getting on the board with its lone run in the top of the eighth inning. Florida A&M (10-16, 5-2 SWAC) jumped ahead in the first before adding three more runs in the middle innings to extend the lead before pulling away late.
The Tigers were held to four hits in the contest with four different players each picking up one.
Erick Gonzalez (0-1) suffered the loss working 4.2 innings allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five. Caleb Granger (4-2) picked up the win for Florida A&M working 7.0 innings and giving up just two hits with 10 strikeouts.
How It Happened
- (B1) The Rattlers got on the board when Janmikell Bastardo hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Ty Jackson, Florida A&M 1-0.
- (B4) Jalen Niles singled up the middle to score Jakoby Stanley and Sebastian Greico, Florida A&M 3-0.
- (B5) Stanley singled to short to drive in Greico, Florida A&M 4-0.
- (B7) Jackson doubled down the left field line to score Niles and Joseph Pierini before Broedy Poppell recorded an RBI with a sacrifice fly to right, Florida A&M 7-0.
- (T8) Jordan McCladdie singled to right to drive in Myles White, Florida A&M 7-1.
- (B8) Greico hit a solo home run to right center before Niles and True Fontenot picked up RBI singles, Florida A&M 10-1.
