JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State dropped the first game of a four-game series against Alabama State 8-3 on Thursday night at Braddy Field in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action.
The game was a make-up game from Montgomery that was rained out the weekend of March 16-17, and despite dropping the game, Jackson State (24-12, 8-7 SWAC) claimed its third conference series of the year. Alabama State (17-18, 8-7 SWAC) jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning and held on after the Tigers scored three runs combined in the sixth and seventh.
Myles White led the eight-hit attack from the Tigers, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, and
Robert Tate Jr. finished 2-for-3 with a run scored in the loss.
Je-andrick Lourens (1-3) suffered the loss working 6.1 innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on 13 hits.
How It Happened
- (B1) Juan Cruz singled in the game's first run before Devin Chandler reached with another RBI single. The Hornets added two more with a single from Kyler McIntosh and a sacrifice fly by Quentin Jenkins, Alabama State 4-0.
- (B3) Jenkins singled through the right side to drive in another run, Alabama State 5-0.
- (B5) Cristian Lopez singled in another run and Isaiah Landry drove in another with a sacrifice fly, Alabama State 7-0.
- (T6) Lenny Montesano extended his hit streak and reaching base streak with an RBI single to left to score Jordan McCladdie, Alabama State 7-1.
- (T7) White singled up the middle to score Tate before Ledy Alvarez drove in White with a sacrifice fly, Alabama State 7-3.
- (B8) Ali LePread drove in the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly, Alabama State 8-3.

The two teams return to action at 6 p.m. on Friday in the second game of the set, and the beginning of a new series.
