JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State scored eight first-inning runs and held off an Alabama State rally for a 10-9 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory at Braddy Field on Friday night.
Jackson State (25-12, 9-7 SWAC) jumped to an 8-1 lead after one and pushed the lead to 10-3 through seven before
Christian Womble was able to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth inning after the Hornets put six on the board.
Jordan McCladdie and
Joseph Eichelberger each picked up two hits for the Tigers in the nine-hit attack. McCladdie finished 2-for-5 with a double and RBI, and Eichelberger finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.
Grant VanDeventer (5-3) picked up the win working 6.1 innings allowing three runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. Womble came in to pitch the final inning and allowed one run (unearned) on one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
How It Happened
- (T1) Ali LaPread singled to left to drive in Randy Flores, Alabama State 1-0.
- (B1) Lenny Montesano tied the game on a balk before Eichelberger reached on an infield single driving in a run, and Ledy Alvarez doubled to left center to drive in White. Hasan Standifer reached on a fielding error that allowed Eichelberger to score followed by a Rodney Hibler Jr. triple to right center to clear the bases. The scoring ended on a McCladdie single to right, Jackson State 8-1.
- (T2) Isaiah Landry singled to short to drive in a run before Randy Flores drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Jackson State 8-3.
- (B7) Sebastian Cabeza was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score White before Standifer drew a bases-loaded walk, Jackson State 10-3.
- (T9) Juan Cruz drove in a run with a single to right center followed by a single through the right side by Jack Hay, and a two-run single to left by Kyler McIntosh. The Hornets added two more on walks to Cristian Lopez and Flores, Jackson State 10-8.
