Tigers fall to Alabama State in Sunday doubleheader

JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State dropped a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) doubleheader to Alabama State at Braddy Field on Sunday, dropping the first game 9-3 and the second 12-2.
 
The two teams split the season series with each winning on the other's home field this season.
 
In the opener, Jackson State (25-14, 9-9 SWAC) was held to just two hits in the loss one each off the bat of Joseph Eichelberger and Jordan McCladdie. Isaiah Williams (4-2) suffered the loss working 7.0 innings allowing eight runs (only three earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts. Shemar Harris worked the final 2.0 innings and allowed just one run on one hit.
 
In the nightcap, Jackson State was held to just three hits all picked up by different players including McCladdie, Eichelberger, and Myles White. Erick Gonzalez (1-2) suffered the loss working 5.0 innings allowing nine runs (only three earned) on 10 hits with a pair of strikeouts.
 
How It Happened (Game 1)
  • (T1) Jack Hay drove in Randy Flores with an RBI groundout, Alabama State 1-0.
  • (B2) Sebastian Cabeza reached on a throwing error allowing Robert Tate Jr. to score before Jaelen Williams drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Tigers added one more with a fielder's choice off the bat off Lenny Montesano, Jackson State 3-1.
  • (T4) Dylan Escobar drove home a run with a sacrifice fly before Ali LaPread reached on a dropped ball on the infield, Alabama State 4-3.
  • (T6) Flores hit a solo home run to right, Alabama State 5-3.
  • (T7) Quentin Jenkins reached on a fielding error on a sacrifice bunt to bring in a run before Yeriel Pastrana used a sacrifice fly, and Isaiah Landry delivered with an RBI single, Alabama State 8-3.
  • (T9) Landry tripled to right score to drive in Pastrana, Alabama State 9-3.
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • (T1) LaPread hit a solo home run to right, Alabama State 1-0.
  • (T2) Pastrana drove in Hay with a sacrifice bunt before Landry singled through the right side to drive in a run, and Flores reached on a fielding error that scored another. The Hornets added another run on a sacrifice bunt by Escobar and a wild pitch that scored Flores, Alabama State 6-0.
  • (B2) Cabeza drove in Eichelberger with an RBI groundout, Alabama State 6-1.
  • (T4) LaPread singled in another run before Juan Cruz singled to left to score LaPread and the Hornets took advantage of an error, Alabama State 9-1.
  • (B5) Tate stole second before Rodney Hibler Jr. scored on a wild pitch, Alabama State 9-2.
  • (T6) Cruz doubled to right center to drive in a run, Alabama State 10-2.
  • (T7) Escobar drew a bases-loaded walk before LaPread brought in another run while grounding into a double play, Alabama State 12-2.
