DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | Jackson State scored early and pulled away to win the series finale over Bethune-Cookman 19-5 at Jackie Robinson Field in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on Sunday.
Jackson State (21-10, 6-5 SWAC) pounded out 21 hits including a 4-for-6 day from
Lenny Montesano who finished the day with six RBI and a pair of home runs. Four different players collected three this in the win including
Jordan McCladdie,
Jaelen Williams,
Myles White, and
Ledy Alvarez. The Tigers used the 21 hits to score six runs in the second to pull away and seven in the ninth to seal the victory.
Erick Gonzalez (1-1) picked up the win in the start working 6.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts.
How It Happened
- (T2) Williams singled to short to score Joseph Eichelberger before Alvarez singled up the middle to score Williams. Rodney Hibler Jr. reached on a fielding error to drive in a run before a single from Montesano extended the lead to five. Robert Tate Jr. ended the inning with a sacrifice fly to left, Jackson State 6-0.
- (T4) Montesano hit a two-run home run to left, Jackson State 8-0.
- (B4) Michael Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice to drive in a run, Jackson State 8-1.
- (T5) Williams hit a solo home run to left center followed by a two-run single by Montesano up the middle, Jackson State 11-1.
- (B6) Manny Souffrain hit a two-run home run to right, Jackson State 11-3.
- (B7) Soffrain singled through the right side to score another run, Jackson State 11-4.
- (T8) Montesano hit a solo home run to left, Jackson State 12-4.
- (B8) Garrett Chun reached on a fielder's choice, Jackson State 12-5.
- (T9) Eichelberger reached on a bases-loaded walk before Sebastian Cabeza reached on a catcher's interference to bring in another run. Williams cleared the bases with a double to left center followed by a White double down the right field and a wild pitch, Jackson State 19-5.

Jackson State returns to action on the road Tuesday, April 9, against Grambling with a 6 p.m. first pitch scheduled. They return home this weekend with a three-game series beginning Friday against Alabama A&M.
