JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State evened its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against Bethune-Cookman with a 5-0 victory at Braddy Field on Saturday, and in the process secured its spot in the conference tournament later this month.

Jackson State (31-18, 14-12 SWAC) broke open a close game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and used the pitching of
Erick Gonzalez to keep Bethune-Cookman (28-23, 18-8 SWAC) off-balance for most of the game.

Gonzalez (4-2) worked the first 6.1 innings scattering five hits and striking out four before leaving the game after taking a line drive off the leg in the seventh inning.
CJ Lewis came out of the bullpen to work 0.2 innings before giving way to
Christian Womble who worked the final 2.0 innings of hitless relief to pick up his seventh save.

Rodney Hibler Jr. led the seven-hit attack by Jackson State finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored, while
Shemar Harris delivered a two-run double in the seventh to open the game up for the Tigers.

How It Happened
- (B3) Jordan McCladdie singled to right to drive in Sebastian Cabeza before he forced a bad throw at second on a stolen base allowing Hibler to score, Jackson State 2-0.
- (B7) Harris doubled to center to drive in Arjun Huerta and Hibler followed by a sacrifice fly by Lenny Montesano, Jackson State 5-0.

The two teams wrap up the series on Sunday, May 12 at Braddy Field with a 1 p.m. first pitch scheduled, and the Tigers will honor the Senior Class before the game.
