Tigers hit the road to close out regular season

JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State will close out the regular season this week on the road in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action facing Alabama A&M in a three-game series beginning Thursday.

Jackson State (31-18, 14-12 SWAC) has won four of its last six games and earned a spot in the conference tournament next week in Atlanta. The Tigers currently sit just two games back of Alabama State for third in the East Division heading into the week and are led by Joseph Eichelberger at the plate, one of six players hitting over .300 for the season, hitting .370 with 64 total hits including 13 extra-base hits. He also scored 45 runs and knocked in another 46.
 
Rodney Hibler Jr. is hitting .352 with an OPS of 1.018 while collecting 64 total hits including 21 extra-base hits. He has scored 58 runs and drove in another 36, and is among the nation's leaders in stolen bases (32) and triples (four). Meanwhile, Jordan McCladdie is hitting .350 with 70 total hits including 21 extra-base hits. He is among the nation's leaders in triples (six) and stolen bases (31).
 
Myles White (.340/.926/.454/.472), Robert Tate Jr. (.336/.858/.405/.453), and Lenny Montesano (.316/.914/.545/.369) are all hitting over .300 this season with Montesano leading the team in home runs with nine and has added 48 RBI.
 
On the mound, Christian Womble (3-2/3.78/1.47) has come out of the bullpen this season and leads the team in earned run average. He also leads the team, and is among the nation's leaders, in saves with seven. CJ Lewis (3-0/3.00/1.19) has also come out of the bullpen to record a pair of saves this season.
 
This weekend's starters include the team leader in innings pitched Garrett VanDeventer (6-5/5.91/1.65) who is among the nation's leaders in complete games (two), the reigning SWAC Pitcher of the Week Erick Gonzalez (4-2/5.24/1.77), and the team leaders (and among the nation's leaders) in strikeouts Isaiah Williams (5-3/5.25/1.62) with 88.
