Jackson, Miss.| The Jackson State women's basketball team is set to open the 2025-26 season at home in the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center on Monday evening against Mississippi University for Women. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
Jackson State enters a new season having concluded its 2024-25 campaign with a 16-15 overall record and a 13-5 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). In her first season as head coach of the Tigers, Margaret Richards led JSU to a semifinal appearance in the 2025 SWAC Basketball Tournament.
This season's schedule features 12 non-conference matchups and four home games in November.
The Tigers return three to its roster,
Jaileyah Cotton,
Leianya Massenat, and
Ruthie Mbugua. Richards adds 11 newcomers to this year's roster including nine transfers and two freshmen.
Massenat (first team) and Cotton (second team) were both named to the Preseason All-SWAC Basketball Team.
Mississippi University for Women closed out its 2024-25 campaign 8-17 overall and 7-11 in conference play. Last season, the Owls visited the AAC for an exhibition matchup against JSU which ended in a 93-36 victory for the Tigers.
