Tigers travel to Vero Beach for three games in Andre Dawson Classic

JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State hits the road for the second consecutive weekend to open the 2025 season heading to Vero Beach (Fla.) for the Andre Dawson Classic for three games, all airing on MLB.com.

Jackson State (2-1) faces Southern, Prairie View A&M, and Alabama State beginning on Friday and running through Sunday with all three games beginning at 12 p.m. (ET). The Tigers enter the weekend fresh off a tournament title at the Cactus Jack Classic in Houston last weekend, giving up just 14 runs to earn the title.

Pierre Cabral leads the Tigers in hitting after the opening weekend, earning the co-Newcomer of the Week award from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) after he hit .556 with five hits including a double and a three-run home run. He also scored a run and knocked in five more, and was named to the All-Tournament team after helping lead Jackson State (2-1) to the tournament title. The junior also slugged 1.000 and had an on-base percentage of .615, while also picking up a three-hit game against Texas Southern to close out the tournament on Sunday.

Ledy Alvarez and  Wilbert Perez. Alvarez (.400/.500/.571) finished the week with four hits in 10 at-bats, while also scoring 10 runs and recording a double. Meanwhile, Perez (.400/.600/.417) picked up four hits in 10 at-bats with a pair of doubles and he knocked in a pair of runs. Meanwhile, Joseph Eichelberger (.333/.667/.467) picked up four hits including a double and a home run. He scored four runs and knocked in five more.

On the mound, Erick Gonzalez (0-0/6.23/1.62) and Nkosi Didder (0-1/0.00/1.25) led the way over the weekend for the Tigers. Gonzalez lasted 4.1 innings in the opener and struck out nine with just a pair of walks. Meanwhile, Didder made a couple of appearances, striking out six in 4.0 innings on opening weekend and Shemar Harris (1-0/0.00/0.33) made a pair of appearances without give up a run and just one hit in 3.0 innings
