JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State soccer team is set for another conference matchup tomorrow evening in Montgomery, Ala. as they look to take on Alabama State University for the teams first win of the season.
The Tigers have endured through injuries and a tough non-conference schedule so far through the 2019 season but look to be on the verge of turning the ship back into the right direction as the Blue and White have continued to progress each and every game.
The team, currently 0-9, has managed to give up a little over one goal per game over the last five matchups after giving up an average of six goals through the first four games of the season, a difference of five goals as they look poised for a breakout game tomorrow versus Alabama State.
JSU is coming off of it's only conference loss of the season thus far which came to the hands of last years defending SWAC champions, Howard University.
Friday's matchup features a different story as Alabama State will host the Tigers at home with a current sitting record of 1-10 overall and 0-2 in SWAC play.Â
For ASU, Isabella Beortegui, who was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago, leads the Hornets with five goals (10 points) on the season.
McKenna Wiscombe leads the team in assists with three (while adding a goal), while Meaghan Fielding has added a goal and a pair of assists.
Alabama State is coaches by 13 year veteran Jodie Smith and assisted by Taylor Borman

DR. TED FLOGAITESÂ
"Big weekend for us, massive. We have to pick up points and get some positive results to vault ourselves into position to get into the SWAC tournament. We know what we have to do. We are a much better team than results have shown and we are hunting for results that prove that. If people underestimate us that's their choice. Our focuses remains on improving as people in life, in the classroom, on the pitch, and in everything we do. There are no shortcuts to any kind of excellence, never has been and never will be. We will chase what's important; honesty, integrity, respect and love. We are moving in a brighter direction"
