JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State soccer team takes on Texas Southern tomorrow afternoon for the first round of the SWAC tournament.
The Tigers started the season 0-10 and 0-2 in SWAC play, but finished the year winning 7 of 8 contests and six straight conference shutouts.
That includes 606 straight minutes without giving up a single goal as the Blue and White enter Thursday's match with Texas Southern third ranked in the conference with a record of 7-11 overall and 7-3 in conference.
Ironically, it was a 1-0 win over Texas Southern back on Oct. 13 that prompted the Tigers impressive run of six straight wins. The Tigers will look to use that momentum to make a deep run in the postseason once again versus TSU.
Texas Southern enters the contest with JSU as the No. 6 seed, with a record of 6-10-1 and 5-4-1 in SWAC play. The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern are led by Desiree Harti and Jada MacLean who each have three total goals on the season.
Mia Marshall, Kayla Smith, and Cassandra Sandoval follow behind them with two goals a piece.Â
TSU is coached by Head Coach Lindsay Vera and assisted by coaches Will Clark, Courtney Murdoch, and Ryan Gilbreath.Â
The last time Jackson State claimed the conference title came in 2013, a feat the program has accomplished twice (2010, 2013) while finishing as the tournament runner-up three times (2005, 2008, 2012).Â
