JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers soccer team returns home tomorrow versus Alabama A&M after nearly a year and half away from their home field. The last time JSU defended their own field was on Nov. 1, 2019 in a 1-0 win over Southern in the regular season finale. Tomorrow, the Lady Tigers and the Lady Bulldogs return to action beginning at 1 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field.
"It's extremely exciting to be back on the field in general, and the excitement of playing at home makes it even better" said Jackson State junior,
Keishawna Brown. "The last time we played at home was in the fall season of 2019, so it has been a while to say the least. The atmosphere of playing at home gives us an added edge because no one ever wants to lose on their own turf. Last season we beat Alabama A&M 3-1 and I'm hoping that we have a similar, if not better result. We're all just super excited to be back on our own field, playing the game we love!"

SEASON OPENING RECAP | JSU 4 | ALCORN 2
The Jackson State Lady Tigers soccer program captured a 4-2 win over Alcorn State in the season opener at Sports Force Park in Vicksburg, Miss on February 28.
Ana Leticia Batista got the Lady Tigers started off with a goal to give JSU a 1-0 lead over the Lady Braves.
Sydni Wilson gave the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead before getting a third goal off the foot of
Brynn Walker to extend the lead to 3-0. JSU added a fourth goal by
Alexandria Dummar as the Lady Tigers were able to wrap up game one of the season by a final score of 4-2 over Alcorn State. After a year and a half off, the Lady Tigers looked sharp in game one. "Look it's basically our first match in a year and a half. I have zero complaints", said head coach
Dr. Ted Flogaites. "We looked brilliant in stretches of the match and played with some authority, the third goal was particularly tasty from a teamwork standpoint. We had some sloppiness creep into other areas, but it's to be expected with how long we've been off. It's one of the only times we been outside since January 5th and it was on a turf surface we didn't get to train on at all." The Lady Tigers were all over the net with multiple scorers on the afternoon, with four Lady Tigers each earning a goal. "The players were excellent, four goals from four different players and we got many different players match experience. You keep it simple: We got to play the game we love, represent JSU and earn a victory. Now we'll address the areas we need to be sharper in over the next two weeks", added Flogaites. JSU begins the season 1-0 overall and 1-0 in SWAC play. The Blue and White return to the pitch on March 12 for the first home match of the season with Alabama A&M. Start time is set for 1 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Complex.
WALKER, DUMMAR EARN SWAC HONORS
Jackson State's Alexandria Dummar and Brynn Walker have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as its SWAC Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively for their outstanding performances in competition this past week. Walker, who was named the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week, helped guide Jackson State to a 4-2 win against Alcorn State. She scored one goal on two shots on goal while also performing outstanding on the defensive end of the field. "It is an honor to be named the first defensive player of the week by the SWAC. Just being back out there on the field in a competitive setting was a great feeling and it's amazing to be chosen for this honor. This only motivates me more to continue to work hard and get better throughout the remainder of the season" said, Walker on being named conference player of the week. Dummar was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring one goal on two shots on goal in just 12 minutes of play in her first collegiate game for the Jackson State Lady Tigers Soccer team. "This past weekend was just an amazing experience in my first collegiate soccer game. The atmosphere, overall competitiveness, and just being out there with my teammates was amazing. Being chosen as the SWAC offensive player of the week is so awesome and I am very thankful to be recognized for this honor in my first game at Jackson State" added the Dummar on receiving Offensive Player of the Week in just her first ever collegiate game.
