GAME 3Â RECAP | ASU 2 | JSU 1Â
JACKSON, Miss. - Despite dominating nearly the entire match on Sunday versus Alabama State, it was Alabama State that ultimately came up with the victory, 2-1, over the Lady Tigers in SWAC play.
Â
Jackson State had a total of 10 shots with seven shots on goal in the match, while Alabama State had only had four shots. Yet a corner kick that fumbled around for a few seconds found the goal for the Lady Hornets as they took a 1-0 lead in the second half.Â
"The loss is absurd. We dominated every phase of the match and got punished for maybe 15 seconds total of inattention, but that's what happens at this level. You get nothing for free. And yes, we had the ball basically the whole match, but we lacked a cutting edge in terms of urgency, desire to put them under pressure. We gave the match away because we didn't want to punish them, and in the process wasted some good individual performances in the process" said head coachÂ
Dr. Ted Flogaites.Â
Alabama State scored again later in the second half to take a 2-0 lead, but with a little under a minute left in the game,Â
Annalise Brunson notched the Lady Tigers only goal of the game. It was her third goal in the last two games.
"I'm not going to look for a silver lining, it's a match we should have won, period. For how suffocating and dominating we were for the first thirty minutes of the match and to not have any quality shots, or services, that's us letting ourselves down, it's rendering the work useless. We needed to put them to the sword and we didn't, and they escaped big time" closed Flogaites.
With the loss, JSU falls to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in SWAC play. Jackson State returns to the pitch on Friday on the road at Texas Southern.

QUOTABLE
Dr. Ted Flogaites
"I don't have words to describe the match. One of the most epic matches I've ever been a part of, ever. The drama, thirteen rounds of penalty kicks. Incredible. My heart is still racing. I thought Thea was phenomenal in the shootout, and Sage, Syd and Ana all converted two penalties, ice runs through their veins. Amazing team performance, and now the chance to play in the semis and potentially avenge our loss to Prairie View from earlier in the season. They are a good team with a top coaching staff. It should be a thrilling contest. The fact that we get to play an additional 90 minutes and spend more time together as a team is the big thing. The cardiac kids keep it exciting but they are doing JSU proud."
TEXAS SOUTHERNÂ LAST GAME RECAP:Â MARCH 7, 2021Â | TSU 1Â | ALCORN 0
Texas Southern soccer returned home with a smile on its face as they won a 1-0 nail biter at Alcorn State thanks to a late goal from Mia Ontiveros. The TSU offense was aggressive early as Ontiveros got the ball rolling with the team's first shot attempt of the game in the 27th minute. Fellow teammates, Johana Anaya and Camile Robinson also had with shot attempts shortly before the first half ended. The pace of the contest picked up in the second half with shots from both teams as Texas Southern had 11 shot attempts compared to Alcorn State's nine. TSU had three attempts at the goal within the first three minutes of the half as Crisely Pavon was the aggressor throughout the entire half with six attempts. After an TSU offsides, the Tigers rebounded quickly and came through in the clutch as Mia Ontiveros delivered the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute which was assisted by Stephanie Robles. Both teams went down to the wire with shots but TSU goalie Oriana Palacios and the TSU defense came through when it mattered as they held off ASU's late charge.
