LORMAN, Miss.| After opening conference play with a tie and a victory at home, the Jackson State University women's soccer team seeks to extend its good standing with a visit to Alcorn State on Friday.
Jackson State (2-6-1, 1-0-1 SWAC) is coming off of its first conference win at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Sunday afternoon. The Tigers opened the second half of the game scoring a goal as Sage Magruder acted off of a free kick. The Tigers' defense stood tall for roughly 42 minutes not allowing its opponent to score. Sage Magruder is ranked seventh in game-winning goals after her performance against UAPB. Kendyl Terrell sits at nine. Annalise Brunson sits in the 10th spot in the conference for shots (13). Goalkeeper, Tionna Taylor is ranked third in shutouts per game (3) and eighth in the conference in saves (32).
Alcorn State (2-5-1, 0-0 SWAC) will host JSU in its first conference matchup of the season Friday at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium. The Braves completed their nonconference schedule last Friday, falling to Chicago State 3-1. Alcorn State opened its season with four losses and a tie, including a 2-1 loss against Grambling State. The Braves caught a break with a win a East Texas Baptist, 2-1. The purple and gold fell in a 3-2 heartbreaker at Nicholls State but answered with a 3-1 victory at Centenary.
